Chris Ordoñez is an ocean engineer and physicist with over 20 years of experience in environmental observation systems, technical team leadership, field operations, and robotics development.
Chris has implemented projects across diverse global environments—from Trinidad to Iceland, Laos to Mozambique—working effectively with international teams and local communities. With academic credentials including a BS in Ocean Engineering (Texas A&M University), MS in Ocean Physics (Oregon State University), and M.Eng in Engineering Management & Leadership (Rice University), Chris brings strong technical foundations to complex environmental challenges.
Currently, as Program Manager for Nature Based Solutions at Rice University's SSPEED Center, Chris coordinates interdisciplinary research teams developing practical carbon removal strategies through natural systems approaches in coastal, forest, and rangeland environments.
